The project MaCoCo – Management Cockpit for university chair’s Controlling - aim is to develop a software solution for university chairs to facilitate their management and accounting. The key elements are formed by administration of resources, third party projects as well as the planning of employees and projects.

Currently the approximately 400 chairs of the RWTH Aachen University use individual, self-conceived solutions, which unfortunately leave some important needs unaccomplished. All those needs will be covered and standardized by the MaCoCo Software.

Two chairs of RWTH Aachen University will be cooperating to pursue the project. Conceptual design will be conducted by the Chair of Management Accounting held by Prof. Dr. Peter Letmathe whereas the implementation work will be undertaken by the Chair of Software Engeneering held by Prof. Dr. Bernhard Rumpe.

To satisfy all needs of the different chairs the concept of agile development is used. Agile development is based on short, 1-4 week, cycles, so called sprints, which include conception of software features in cooperation with Lead Users, implementation and testing. Including Lead Users form different institutes and faculties throughout the university in the process of development ensures that the software will match the specific requirements of the users.

The project will be monitored by the steering committee, a selected group of people composed of representatives of the staff councils, data protection and the university’s administration.

Aim of the MaCoCo project is to release a tested, ready to use software which matches the specific requirements of university chairs and already solve many of currently existing problems until April 2019.
