Business Model Development for Neuromorphic Computing
The NeuroSys Future Cluster is a cluster initiative of RWTH Aachen University, funded by the "Clusters4Future" ideas competition of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The cluster pursues the goal of advancing research in the field of neuromorphic hardware. In this context, 16 chairs of RWTH Aachen University, the Research Center Jülich and various practical partners from the Aachen region are conducting joint research. NeuroSys is funded with a total of €45 million.
Neuromorphic hardware imitates the synapses and neurons of the brain. In the future, it could represent a key technology in the field of artificial intelligence, as conventional computer hardware is increasingly reaching its limits. The advantage of neuromorphic architecture is that memory and logic are no longer separate, which enables massive parallelization. Neuromorphic systems are particularly impressive due to their low power consumption. Neuromorphic hardware enables neural networks to be operated locally, which could reduce time-consuming data transfer to cloud services as well as their energy-intensive operation. Especially in the fields of autonomous driving, medical technology, speech recognition and energy, areas are opening up for this innovative technology.
The Chair of Controlling accompanies the cluster in project E. The aim of the project is to ensure the long-term success and social benefit of the disruptive innovations to be developed. Thus, Project E creates the essential prerequisites for a transfer into entrepreneurial practice.
